This week, I was honored to provide a webinar for physicians on behalf of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians. I am so proud that our Academy surveyed our members and is providing N95 and surgical masks to those physicians who need them — free of charge. Talk about Supporting Florida’s Family Physicians! Thank you, FAFP!
To empower and equip physicians during this global crisis, the FAFP asked me to address stress management and discuss practical ways for us to care for ourselves and one another. I made sure to include ways to be more effective as physician leaders, thinking in particular about those colleagues in settings where they feel disempowered or unsupported, which will place them, their teams, and their patients at unnecessary risk. I present ways to mitigate stress and stand strong during this pandemic while staying safe. I also place the pandemic in context, explaining why physicians are particularly vulnerable as this crisis sweeps through our communities, and why it is vital for us to lead as the experts in medicine.
This is not a time to be passive or to acquiesce. This emergency calls for physician leaders to work optimally with every member of the medical team as well as administration to ensure the safety and effectiveness of everyone caring for patients. Quite literally, lives are at stake.
The webinar also includes a discussion by a healthcare attorney about financial and medico-legal implications of the COVID-19 crisis. To access the free webinar, simply click on the image below.
Thank you to every physician, nurse, respiratory therapist, first responder, and every medical professional for all you’re doing to care for people during this unprecedented crisis. Stay well, please wear your PPE every time, and remember to be good to yourself!
